What crisis scenarios should you prepare for?

The answer is simple: it is the ‘simple’ and often very ‘unspectacular’ incidents that can turn our usual shopping routines upside down. Today, we are used to getting fresh produce from our supermarket, bakery or butcher at almost any time of year. Many households go shopping once or twice a week and stock up on fresh milk, bread, bread rolls, sausages, salads and anything else their heart desires. In most cases, they always buy exactly the quantities they need for their next shopping trip.
Today, all important consumer goods are transported to retailers via a very well-functioning distribution system. Just in time - this is what logistics calls it when goods are delivered in such a timed manner that only minimal storage times are required. This means that your corner supermarket usually receives new goods at least twice a week. Normally, this is usually enough to cover the needs of local customers for a week.
f, for example, the weekly deliveries to your supermarket are interrupted due to storms or strikes, you can be sure that the shelves in your store will be empty within a week at most.
In recent years, large parts of Europe have been affected by lengthy power cuts. As a result, bakers were unable to produce bread products within 24 hours because their ovens were not working. In supermarkets and private households, fridges and freezers failed and supermarket food shelves were emptied within 48 hours.
The Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance therefore recommends on its own website that every household should stock up on food and drink that can be stored for one to two weeks without refrigeration, just in case.
